Climbing sucks

Postby db » Mon May 09, 2011 10:38 am

Just read this choice tidbit from Climbing (the mag) "Boulder, Colorado: the undisputed social hub of U.S. climbing, with sponsored athletes of every discipline living in a city packed-full of talent, competition, and progressive ideas."

Really makes me want to puke up my organic, free-range, progressive, yogaized breakfast. Per capita, I'd say Utah is stacked a lot deeper with more crags, true talent, and a lot less spray.

Nonsense. Utah it full of choss, populated by low-key talentless beaters. Broulder is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO where it's all at.
Same should be said for winter sports btw.

I second that. With all the pristine conditions in Rado they should never bother with the terrible rock and pitiful snow we get in Utah. Californians should also jump right over Utah and enjoy the outdoor activities that await them in Colorado.

Yep Im going to have to agree. Colorado is hands down far better in climbing and skiing. Shit I will go as far as saying that the people in Colorado are for more nice and less ego driven than those here in Utah. Especially those nice folks in Boulder.
I'd rather watch movie stars get fat!

One of the climbers from the movie asked me out on a date a long time ago. When I said no, he started dating another Asian woman around area and I felt objectified.

But didn't you know that Moab is one of the biggest climbing scenes in the world? http://vimeo.com/23320585

I came from the Boulder area. Sadly, I must admit that I cannont wait to get back climb in Eldo, train at The Spot, and then chillax on Pearl Street. Salt Lake just cannot compete with the outdoor hub of the US! Plus, the beer laws in the 303 are so much better. It is nearly impossible to get drunk here!

I am definitely busting my ass to get back to ColoRADo. I am definitely not thinking about permantly altering my career path to stay here and climb crappy rock and ski shitty snow. Plus, jesus, it takes sooooooo long to get to the mountains here. If only we had something as nice as the I-70 corridor.

I hear Provo is the new baddest and raddest scene. Now with the new 22 pitch "mega-classic" of the country, and the diverse, eclectic culture, endless amounts of perfect rock, I vote Provo as the new outdoor hub of the country. I don't feel the spirit when I'm climbing near SLC or Boulder.

22 pitches?! That's going to be hard to pack into just one video.

I definitely concur that in Utah, moab is absolute center of the climbing scene. I mean, just think - every time you go bouldering at big bend, you always see like 30 other climbers. But you rarely see other people in LCC! It totally makes sense.
