i have been planning this trip to joe's and you locals have been alot of help. can anyone tell me if there is a climbing shop in castle dale? i need to get the utah bouldering guild book.i may be old , overwiegh and just off the couch but i plan on having a blast throwing myself at every boulder i can . to many hours behind my computer and not enough time spent hunting for boulders.

the only place that might have the guide book would be the motel in castle dale. there is no climbing shop there.
if you are coming from the south, stop in cedar city at the mountain shop and pick one up. if you are coming through salt lake you can stop at several places. if you are coming through neither you may be out of luck unless someone else knows of what to do.

thanx jun, i finally found the guild online .the climbing shop beta helps too . i thought that there would be one in huntington or castle dale . i'll have to get my stuff here in phx . az. i'm always open to climbers around my campfire . look for a white suburban at joe's after the 9th of october.b.y.o.b.

Actually, man, you're in luck. After 2 years of hassling every single employee there (even the bakery chick that makes the kick ass donuts in the morning) the grocery store in Orangeville now sells the BBR guidebook. I forget what it's called (Food ranch? Food king? Something like that), but it's right before the major turn in Orangeville that puts you on the road to Joes.
At this point, they may even sell chalk and tape, but last time I was in there they definitely had a couple copies of the guidebook.

We went down to Joe's today but the clouds were extremely threatening so we took a turn and went to triassic. conditions there were much better and we were actually able to get some climbing in for a while. It sprinkled off and on for a while before we finally gave up.
from there we went to the left fork of Joe's to fish. oddly enough, the weather was amazing when we got there, but we were in fishing mode and dropped into the stream for a couple of hours.
what a great day. i was even home by five to pick up my son.
