yeah, i shudder to think what could happen while crossing that pipe in the rain.

trail is not marked from the old spray painted building opposite gate to the shothole boulder at the Buzz area, but there is copious documentation at the shothole boulder and the trail is obviously closed west of this point so we stayed off of it. deer trails abound uphill, however. surprise was dry in spite of swirling ominous clouds. the wind chime gave surprise a weird ambiance.

No walking from Tanners down to the upper bridge then for access?

I've got some calls out to the FS to figure this out. I'll update when I get a clear answer.

watch out for the inch worm/caterpillars. we made it half way to the smilie boulder last night, and bailed due to the horror movie esque curtains of buggars hanging from all the trees.

spent the next 10 minutes on the side of the road brushing them off pads, digging them out of shirts and hair, etc.

I talked to Steve Schnide (Sp?) from the FS this morning. He basically asked for patience while the high water is going on, and said the FS is planning on getting the trail reopened this summer if possible. The pipe near the gate is on private property and not under the FS's control...

Man card revoked! Those things don't even have mouths to bite you....I can only imagine what would happen if a bat flew in your hair.

no worms in the areas on the south side with pine trees, or up high (campus, white pine, etc.)

the gate isn't even all that bad. plus, the canopy is so thick this year that it was like climbing under a solid ceiling yesterday.

the shade was impressive.

the five mile is out of control with worms.

The worms seem to be on the decline, LCC creek is raging, and I saw the 5 mile bunny yesterday, so summer must be here!

Planning on getting worked at the campus boulder or some other greasy pile.

Safest way is to cross @ the Wp trail head bridge and walk in from there. about 10 min to the moose boulder.
