Your something something moment of G.N.A.R.

This might eventually devolve into another lively thread, the gnar being quite abundant around these parts.
Found this to get it started:

Kilian Jornet, 25, one of the world's great endurance runners, has speed soloed the long, technical and exposed Innominata on the Italian side of Mont Blanc in a scant 6:17. The time is amazing on many levels. While technically the climb is easier than the north faces of the Eiger or the Matterhorn, the scale is much greater and the objective dangers are higher. Jornet, who is not even known as a climber, started from the church in Courmayeur at roughly 3,300 feet and ran the 12,000 feet to the summit of Mont Blanc, then ran over 12,000 feet down the French side arriving at the church in Chamonix in a total time of 8:43.

He covered over 24,000 vertical feet, climbing and running roughly 20 miles over glaciers, loose rock faces and miles of snow and ice slopes, all solo.

And some footage here of the guy in running shoes crossing the flats at the foot of l'Aiguille du Midi. Just because he can.
I wonder if he used YakTraks...

And for those of you who might have missed it, the locals aren't exactly lazy when it comes to running up and down mountains...

Might have posted that one already but it belongs here.

Indeed those lads can run...

Here's somebase jumping related nonsense. Skip to 2:30 for the start of the action and then to 10:00 for the not-so-unexpected near-death consequences.

It's been a rough month for French climbers with the unexpected death of Patrick Edlinger and now Maurice Herzog...Annapurna is a great read. IMO their ascent of Annapurna, was perhaps the greatest Himalayan achievement of all time.

It was quite the feat...The 2nd book about the "real" story about the endless conflicts and gigantic egos is an interesting read too.
Herzog is the last member of the expedition to go. A page has turned.

And Edlinger falling down stairs? That's not a way to go.
