Here's the story so you may do sum learnin:

Ten and I do a new route (stellar!) in LCC. ["stellar" means chossy as hell]
He leads, I follow. I rap first. I was in a hurry to get down (sounds like the beginning of every accident report I've ever read).
The rap was all clear. But....
At the bottom, I traversed 6 feet or so to rap another 15 feet. Ten yelled "ROCK!"
We've all dodged many over the years; my thoughts upon seeing it "Oh, that's BIG".
I waited for the bounce to figer its direction, but BAM, no time or space to react--narrow drainage.
Approx 2x3x1 foot boulder. Ten asks, "Bryce, you OK?"
I'm too nauseated and kinda in shock to answer immediately, which makes him a little nervous. he he
So we splint the left leg with a stick and a BBQ brush, and due to ego, we walk out. (2 hours vs what normally takes 10-12 min). S&R? Of course not. I too was making fun of the guy that bork his ankle on Great White Icicle last season and got S&R.

ER: mult Fractures R ankle/foot and Fracture L femur by knee, subluxated patella. 2 mos nonweightbearing in wheelie Mcfeely. Good Times!

Analysis:

Obvious isn't it? Always scope the entire route/rap for potential love boulders so yer line doesn't snag one. Clean em on the way down BEFORE you get down.

I offering this up for educational purposes to yall. Don't need a lecture or further "You should a" comments.

On the other hand, I gots time. So if you wanna rip, feel free. I got a few in me yet. Besides it'll be good fun.

BTW: If you own 1996 N. American Mountaineering Accidents, you can find me in there too.

Glad to hear it's not worse and you're still on your feet. Errrr... foot.
A block that size could do some fierce damage.
Get better fast, there's tons more choss to beat on and trundle in Little!

Hmm, not exactly as I remember it! You forgot to mention the butt scooch for the first half. Oops... due to ego we shall not admit to any butt scrubbing, etc... There is a super clean approach up to the exact spot now! Thanks Zoso, always taking em for the team!!!

A rock that big hurtling toward you must be terrifying even in retrospect.

Hope you get better asap if not sooner.

This forum is merciless... The guy got nailed by a chunk of mountain and he's still being called on his lack of style during the hike out.
Whoa. Just whoa!
You should have beat him with a stick to get him to move faster...

I've held it in the whole week! And I had his blood on my arm, so I have some rights. Seriously though, Bryce took it like a man. He's a stud, so anything I say is totally sarcastic!

That was terrifying.

Funny thing is, he kept saying, "No, I'm not letting them come and get me - I made too much fun of the guys for not self rescuing off the GWI this winter."

Ego is quite the bitch... Way to stick to one's beliefs though.

Forgot to mention:

Spatial thanks to Tenesmus, Spreadsheet, and my bro Mike Perkins for the assistance with the evac.

Ten and Spreadsheet: Sorry for the blood; don't think it's tainted--as far as you know. Ten, did it come out of your car seat?

And Thanks to Dallen (SunnyD) for building the much-needed wheelie ramp off my backdoor. :D

Thx everyone else for "speedy recovery" wishes. I appreciate that. Ten says its a good time to learn to read. He claims it'll really enrich my life. Ha.

That might cost me a keyboard which is now covered in the coffee that shot out of my nose...
Laughing pretty hard, thanks!
