John Bachar RIP

John went out the way he lived - an iconoclast, on the edge, without a rope. He changed the face of climbing in the states in the 70's and 80's. In a sense he was the first bouldering highballer. And he was one hell of a sax player.

Re: looking for SLC / PARK CITY area partner

C'mon Clip,
Kelvin is from outside the Zion Curtain. A little anxiety is normal. After all, we Uturds are all ultra-right, gun-toting, polygamist wingnuts

Upper Waterfront mystery route?

I was up on the Waterfront this past weekend. There's a line just to the right of Birdland/Ripcurl. It's not in the guidebook. Although there's one pin and a bolt for a belay at the start that are pictured in the Ruckman guide. Looks like it would take gear. It's running with water and full of moss ...

Re: Industrial Wall -LCC

Well, I can now answer my own question. It's BIG water. Not safe to scramble around. Give it a few weeks.

Re: NO STAR TUESDAY!!!

Hey Drew, I think may be Sidewinder died this winter. I didn't make it all the way up there, but the rockfall Shingo mentioned is fairly significant. I'll be back up there again soon with some loppers to clear away some of the trees. But most of those shade trees are gone now. Lots of rock fell fro...

Almost tangled with a moose on the way up to Serendipity Wall at Causey. He seemed to know not to mess with us.

Re: Goats suck

I have been short charged on the Schoolroom downclimb w/ my wife by a angry goat. It came w/in 8 feet of us. I have witnessed goats stomping their hoves on top of the Middle Bell while climbers where climbing (and hearing the climbers yelling rocks!) Witnessed massive rock fall in Tanners due to go...

Re: Goat stories

Goat Gully (southside LLC) is named as such because of a close encounter I had with a mother and baby. There's a huge chockstone you have to scramble around to get into the upper gully. As I popped around the boulder, I scared the shit out mama - literally. As the two took off in a hurry, black goat...

Re: ASCA

Just a heads up for Monkey and the other rebolting bitches (you know we love u). The S curves routes are getting long in the tooth, and they get a lot of traffic. I was up there on Saturday and there were a lot of mangled hangers, tweaked/rusty bolts and missing rapid links. I fixed what I could, bu...
