In the case I'm aquainted with, my buddy got an explanation from the manufacturer with his new draws: Biners aren't made to hold body weight when the gate is open and the biner is hooked to the bolt eye by the gate notch in the biner. those are artifacts that simply need to be relocated to a less offensive spot nearby. Local legend has it that the last person that tried to remove those tools from the yukon found themselves cursed until they returned the tools back to their rightful place. true story. i wouldn't even want to think...
