SOC Trail Days

Monday, June 4th, 2007

From the Save Our Canyons mailing list.

*ACTION ALERT!*

Save Our Canyons Trail Days

WHEN: Saturday, June 9
WHERE: Meet at The Big Cottonwood Canyon Park and Ride lot at 8:00 AM
WHY: To keep your trails in shape!

Another year has sped by and Save Our Canyons is again lining up volunteers for our Trail Days with the Forest Service. We will continue to go out on the second Saturday of June (9), July (14), August (11), and September (8). The Forest Service is always low on funds for maintaining trails and campsites, but this year they have zero dollars allocated so Save Our Canyons and the Wasatch Mountain Club members feel that, as constant users of the trails, we should do our best to help keep them in shape. If you are a trail user or just someone who likes to work outdoors, seriously consider marking your calendars for one or more Trail Days. There is work for every ability level for people eighteen years or older. We will finish working about noon to 1 p.m.

Bring:
- 2 qts. of water or more
- extra shirt
- rain gear if applicable
- lunch
- snack
- sunscreen and bug repellent
- work gloves
- a pack to carry it all

Wear: long pants and shirt (long sleeved SOC tee shirt if you have one) heavy boots.

At this time, we are planning on doing rehab on campsites and trails in the Mill B area of Big Cottonwood Canyon. This is subject to change.

Gayle Parry will bring brownies and drinks for tired trail workers when the work is completed.

Let Gayle know if you are planning to come by e-mailing Gayle Parry - “gwparry -A T- comcast.net” If not sure yet, just show up.
WE NEED YOU!!! PLEASE MAKE THIS A PRIORITY AND MARK IT ON YOUR CALENDAR!

January 27 - James Brown SuperBad Memorial Comp

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

Supabad

Make your plans now.

Check-in at 1p, event starts at 2p.Citizen’s comps at The Front are for all ages and abilities. These are fun community events with an emphasis on camaraderie rather than competition. Check it out, you’ll be glad you did! Learn more about Citizen’s Comp’s at The Front here.

At the last comp we tested our new online scoring system. This comp we’ll open the online scoring for everyone. The more that participate, the faster we can get to the swag give-away. Plus, you can check your placement during the comp, or find the easy problems. Here’s how it works. When you check-in, we’ll give you your three character scoring code. With this code, you can enter any of your scores during the comp - do it as you’re waiting to do your next problem, do it for all problems you complete. It automatically computes your top scores.

- eliminate that ‘after the comp, wait’n for the raffle’ time
- increase scoring accuracy - you can check your own final score
- find those easy problems that everyone is doing
- your friends at home can check how you’re doing from the comfort of the internet

Early registration is now open. Please! Pre-register early. This helps us plan for the event, and it will really speed your way through the check-in process on the day of the event.
